BC Based Trauma Therapist Specialized in Neurodivergence

For neurodivergent folks, including those with aphantasia, growing up in a world designed for neurotypical brains can affect your feelings of belonging and safety in the world from a young age. Trying to fit in, masking, the experience of feeling like something about you is wrong or off, those can contribute to deep painful wounds. Helping folks heal those wounds by creating a safe enough space where all parts of you are welcome to be seen and heard, is the focus of my work.

I'm a trauma-informed, relationally focused psychotherapist, and have trained as a Level 3 AEDP Therapist. I work with complex trauma, and love supporting folks who realized they were neurodivergent later in life. I help folks learn to understand and even love the ways their brains work differently.

It's not just going to therapy, it's finding the right fit that makes the difference. We know that the therapy relationship is one of the main factors that impacts whether or not folks see the shifts they are hoping for in therapy. That means finding a therapist who listens, understands you and is open to being flexible with their approaches to support you best. Ideally, a safe therapeutic relationships should be one where you feel free to say no, or share what doesn't work for you, and trust that will be received with care, instead of seen as resistance or a barrier to healing.
For folks whose experience of the world is non-typical, many therapy approaches are not designed to adapt to our experiences of the world. It can be incredibly frustrating to have someone insisting you try to use visualization techniques are access imaginal spaces through memory when those are not accessible or available. I have trained to support folks with whatever channels of experience are open to them so that we are not limited in how we can support your healing. There is a wide range in how neurodivergent folks experience and access their emotions, and having a therapist that understands and supports this can make the therapy space more comfortable, and feel safer. Being able to unmask and show up as your true self, and allow yourself to be witnessed, is an important part of healing. In my practice, we will work together to find what feels safest for you.
