Being a Premature baby and aphantasia/Sdam

1 min readByBillie M
I was a premature baby. I was born 2 months early. There has been some discussion as this may be a cause for: aphantasia and/ or Sdam. I am looking for others that were premature and their experiences.
I have zero mental first person imagery. I only see black. I have horrible navigation ability. I navigate by landmarks (GPS has been a godsend for me.) Photos are so precious to me, now I know why as I can’t picture anything in my brain. I normally remember none of my dreams…I can for a minute or two IF I am abruptly woken up. I am very short on empathy…I just don’t feel what other people do. However I can be sympathic. I don’t have music in my head…I have no idea what an ‘ear worm’ is like! I do have a running dialogue in my head…it’s usually negative, so it’s exhausting!!!

BIllie, I was born at a regular time, but I'm 100% Aphantasiac. I have NOTHING if I try and picture something. I dream and quite vividly. I can also read in my dreams which apparently isn't something many people can do. I also lack the ability to recall lyrics or music beyond the standard songs we're conditioned from a young age (Happy Birthday, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and other nursery rhymes/songs). If there is a song playing that I know, then I can sing along with it, but if you turn the music off, I lose the ability to keep up with the song.

I have thought it was a figure of speech for so long and I when I did I cried myself to sleep but after I realized I just kinda reflect for a day and that's when I realized that's why I was smart and was bored
