Do you prefer dark or light mode?

Could aphantasia play a role in why some people find certain visual contrasts very unpleasant?
I have a bit of astigmatism and I've thought that my aversion to the now-so-fashionable dark mode is just because of that.
When I read light text on a dark background, even with recently replaced glasses, the text always has a halo effect and the ghost image created by the text appears very quickly. My head starts to hurt and I feel like stopping reading after one line of text. Dark text on a light background doesn't cause any problems. This has been the case for as long as I can remember.
Now I'm starting to wonder if aphantasia could also have something to do with it.
Has anyone else had similar experiences?

I prefer dark mode, yet I have aphantasia and astigmatism. It may have more to do with the room/environment. Most of the people I know who prefer dark mode tend to keep the room lights low.

I actually prefer dark mode. The white pages are too bright and I find it difficult to read.
