SDAM - Self-Identity
1 min readByJosh Camden
SDAM means i don't know who i am, lacking Episodic Memories.
I remember who i was years ago, but people change over time. I'm not the same person i was then. Today, i'll be doing something and enjoy it, go home and become confused. I'll remember enjoying something that i also remember i don't like. Without the episodic memories to explain the dissonance, i'm forced to wait days for my semantic, long-term memory to update. I know that long term memory is technically over 20 seconds however that doesn't seem to be the experience.
But then what? I'll have semantic memories enjoying and disliking the same thing. Most of my semantic memory is missing a time stamp, so which memory came first? Who am i today? I'm not saying that i lack a self-identity, but that it can be confusing sometimes.
Every time i bring up an issue with self-identity, i'm referred to terms like self-esteem, self-worth, etc. If i continue to push that i have an issue with Self Identity, i'm usually disagreed with. LOL, ironic, i think.
