I conduct research into aphantasia and mental imagery as a researcher at the University of Sussex. My research examines how aphantasia influences numerous sensory, perceptual, and cognitive processes, including sensory sensitivity, face perception, and worry/catastrophising, and also how aphantasia intersects with other neurodevelopmental traits such as synaesthesia and autism.
Vividness of mental imagery appears to be linked to level of sensory sensitivity, with lower imagery associated with lower sensory sensitivity.
