On “Has anyone found an effective way to meditate?”
For me, aphantasia doesn’t seem to interfere with meditation, although I’m curious what you mean by meditation and by not being successful at it. I wonder whether the sticking point might partly be what you’ve been taught or expected meditation to look like. Some guided meditations rely heavily on visualization — imagining a beach, seeing a light, picturing thoughts as clouds, etc. Those obviously aren’t going to work in quite the same way for someone with aphantasia. But a lot of meditation doesn’t involve visualization at all. I can attend to breath, sensation, sound, movement, thoughts, or just what is happening in the moment without needing to form an image. So I’d be curious: when you’ve tried meditation, what were you being asked to do, and what made you feel you weren’t succeeding?
