Joined about 16 hours agoWhen I write fiction, I tend to have few physical descriptions of how characters look or details of the settings. I tend to skip over long physical descriptions when reading.
I can hear music but like playing chess, it's schematic. I can visualize chess moves but if you asked the color of the board I never noticed it was green and yellow, not black and white. And I understand the patterns in music and chord progressions but I am less likely to react emotionally.
I have had hypnogogic states and don't think of the visual effects as hallucination. I also play chess--we can do visual things which are not real imagery but more schematic--I have an excellent sense of direction.
I have had "visual effects" but nothing I would call hallucination.
I don't use the word "hallucinate" the same way you do. I understand the model you describe (it's not the only one that exists) .
Just turned 80--Glad I'm not the oldest here!
I knew for years I had prosopagnosia. Then in one of my groups I learned about the NYer article.
