On “Has anyone found meditation that works without visualization?”
I practice mindfulness meditation which rests on actual experience, not mental images. So most of the guided (most, not all) meditations I experience are focused on experiencing what is, not imagining what it is. Still, sometimes in guided meditations, visualizing sneaks in and I am learning to let it go, it doesn't apply to my experience, and that's okay. I'm also learning to become a teacher of mindfulness meditation and am paying extra attention to not include visualization in my practice.
On “Do you dream visually?”
My dreams are vivid and are one of the reasons I adore going to bed. Once I even tasted food (I don't recall ever having tasted anything in a dream before that one event). If I remember a dream, I could tell you bits and pieces of it only, but I wouldn't be able to visualize any of it, so it tends to fade really fast. I only have a few memories from my entire life that I can still recall, but I've told myself those stories so many times that they are ingrained in me now.
