My thinking seems to work a bit like yours. I imagine things and they are there even though I don't really see them and I think I visualise in dreams, in colour .
I only discovered it was a thing with a name the other day. I was reading something online that mentioned it. I've known for years that I don't visualise as many people do, and have tried , unsuccessfully to train myself to do so. I am a psychotherapist and I use guided visualisation as an important part of the therapy. When I was training I discovered that some people do visualise and some don't, and it doesn't make the therapy any less effective. I generally enquire if my clients have done guided visualisation before and often use the word imagine/imagination instead. It was a great relief to find out why I've got such poor facial recognition and have been telling everybody why!
