Is SDAM more of a diferentiator than Aphantasia?
i have never been able to visualize and, for me, that has had very little effect on my life. However, i cannot say the same for Severly Deficient Autobiographical Memory. That is a game changer for me.
i have read that many aphants have detailed memory of events but simply do not have the visual aspects. For me, the whole event is either not in memory or is very highly summarized. So instead of not being able to see the dress your bride was wearing, you would only have a vague memory of even being at the wedding and that applies to a major life event. Less important ones are simply not there.
so when i try to explain Aphantasia to friends I stress the fact i have no visual memory and then explain that , for me, that means i have almost no memory of past events even recent ones. So when they ask me is I remember something and I say "No", it is a hard No.
i am curious to find out if memory in Aphants is generally just like non-aphants except with the video turned off, or it it is like mine where many major life events are undetailed or non-existant.
