I struggle intensely with reading. I always attributed it to my inablity to cross my eyes, which makes tracking works challening. Now it makes even. more sense due to my total aphantasia! Books that are heavy with descriptions are the bane of my very existence! I do better with dialog. I generally prefer audio books as a result. Side note, I always laugh when people read a book and then get angry with the way characters look in the movie versions. I never imagined how they would look, so it never bothers me!!!
I was in graduate school for counseling psychology. I read an article that described aphantasia. I was blown away! I had no idea that people had visual images!!! When someone would say "imagine" or "picture" I thought they were seaking figuratively. I asked my famliy members if they had images. My sister did not. My mom did. Since then, as licensed professional counselor and trauma therapist, I always ask my clients if they have visual images. It can signifcantly impact how we process their trauma!
