Joined almost 7 years agoI have aphantasia, and have always loved reading. Some other aphants say they don't enjoy fantasy and sci-fi books as much, but those are my favorite genres. I enjoythe worlds, plots, and characters aven though I can't see them in my mind. Maybe try letting the students for whom lack of mental images is a problem, realistic fiction could be a better choice than things like fantasy. One thing is that I would always be confused when teachers would tell me to make it like a movie in my mind.I think it's great that you are doing this for your students, and I hope more teachers will do this too!
I found out by watching a video from a youtuber called AmyRightMeow. She talked about her experience with aphantasia, and I realized that I had it too.
I checked the image streaming thing. Like you, I couldn't even start. I think that's more for people who can visualize, but want the pictures to be more vivid.
I didn't have any jokes, but I plan on stealing yours.
I love sci-fi and fantasy even though I can't see what's going on. I like the plot, the characters, the world building, everything. By worldbuilding, I mean the cultures. Not how the world looks.
For me, it extends to all five senses. I think there's a spectrum, so for some it might only be some of the senses.
My dreams are visual. I see pretty vividly in my dreams. When I try to think about the other senses, I can't reember if I have them in my dreams. It's wierd but I'm not sure if I have sounds and stuff in my dreams.
