Joined 10 days ago66yrs old. Realised this year that others actually see things and hear things in their imagination. I knew other people had an internal dialogue, just didn't realise what they meant. 20 years ago I was told everyone had an internal dialogue, in a Social Work lecture, he said it was what made us human. Different to all other animals! I informed the full lecture hall that I didn't, that I had just black and grey swirls. I was told something along the lines that I was being stupid, but I knew my IQ was higher! Dyslexic and dyspraxia add to the fun. I have four estranged adult children which is extremely painful and an unsolvable problem.

I was diagnosed with dyslexia at 40. Discovered total aphantasia recently. If overtired I can't sleep. Have to wait till I feel tired again, get up, toilet, drink, etc to reset my brain . I am not creative. Hope things get sorted for her. Xx
I try doing that, not very successfully. My best way to learn vocabulary, which I have always been bad at, is to like act it out. I also used to go to sleep to the tape of my saying the formula or quote to learn, I would record each one several times, building up to full quote. Not sure how effective, but felt like helping!
I empathise with your new normal, it is much much harder to have lost it. I only know what it is like to be aphant from birth, with all the strengths it provides. I can only suggest that you do the some if the surveys on this site, especially the one checking the different levels of each different sense you are able to imagine. Maybe you have a taste or smell etc imaginings, which can help you more.
Just this last year. I am 66, dyspraxic and dyslexic and used to knowing my brain works differently to others, but didn't realise how much. I am totally aphant. I just looked it up one day, after finding out my husband can imagine everything and any sense.
I loved LOTR. I usually read the first and last lines of each paragraph, if make sense, continue. If not read a line in the middle. But over there years I found that LOTR was so lyrical it was worth just reading the descriptions too. I am a total aphasic
Exactly explains my experience. Thank you
I get emotional flashbacks that's it. I have absolutely no sensory imaginings, nothing going on for me but black silence, or dark grey swirls maybe? I took am like a computer, things get shoved in my brain, and pretty instantly the concepts/ answers get shoved out. I must have a pretty amazing inner world, from the concepts etc that my brain works out. But I have no idea at all what it is, how it works or anything. And, I think I only have my one self in my head.
