INFJ and Aphantasia
Hi everybody, I recently heard about the Myers Briggs Personality Types. I figured out that I am probably an INFJ Type. These Types tend to be in their head a lot, thinking about everything (overthink and Overplan actually) and I was wondering if there are more INFJs with aphantasia out there. For me, it feels […]
Dreaming with aphantasia
As someone with anaphantasia I will always dream as if I’m reading a book or following a script. It’s kind of like there is a story going on and then it’s as if your subconscious brain is just telling you a story in your head. After waking up from a dream I won’t be able […]
Alternatives to “mental imagery” in guided meditation
Many meditative practices emphasize using mental imagery. What are useful alternatives to those with aphantasia? I would like to utilize some of these practices but find my lack of imagery to be a huge hinderance.
A lot of problems with Aphantasia
I feel very limited by the aphantasia. I don’t see any pictures, I don’t feel any smell and I don’t hear any sounds when my eyes are closed. In addition, I am very disoriented. the only thing I can see are black backgrounds with white clouds and flickering lights in white and sometimes purple. I […]
When I “picture” something I’m recalling a real life image
Does anyone else find that this happens with them… Someone will say, “picture a field” so I think of the field at my Grandma’s house. Then they say, in the middle of the field is a house. So now I’m recalling an image of a house (that I’ve seen in real life) still can’t actually […]
Problems in all areas
Hello and thanks for this opportunity to share my experience here. My memory problems : – No sense of direction, getting lost in shopping centers/malls in very small woods. Do not recignize places so that I know I have to turn right at this point.– unable to willingly imagine images from the past– unable to […]
The Transition Zone
“NEW MAP OF MEANING IN THE BRAIN CHANGES IDEAS ABOUT MEMORY” This article https://www.quantamagazine.org/new-map-of-meaning-in-the-brain-changes-ideas-about-memory-20220208/ Talks about memory BUT it really states that “language-based representations are partly patterned off of perceptual ones — and this alignment serves as part of a mechanism for how that might happen.” It would be very valuable if the authors […]
DNA Testing
Since it’s well established that Aphantasia is generally hereditary, has anyone started looking into possible DNA links? I bring it up because I recently took the 23 & me test and was shocked by the report saying I had 63% more Neanderthal DNA than the average person. Not saying that is the link, but it […]
Do aphantasic novelists write differently?
As an aphantasic I’ve always found long descriptions in novels boring and tend to skip over them. In fact, for a long time I didn’t know why they were there – perhaps the author was just filling up the word count?! Now I wonder whether there’s been any research into how aphantasic authors write. James […]
Hypersensitive to noise, car head lights etc
Hello. I have aphantasia and my other senses are affected too, e.g I can’t imagine tastes, smells, music etc. I have always struggled with too much light or too much noise, e.g. a family meal around the table and lots of people talking, or sitting in a pub, or any background noise when I’m trying […]
