Benefit of Noticing that I have Basic, Fleeting Visualization Ability
Thank you for the Aphantasia Network! I've maybe been a member for over a year. In that time, not only have I loved the humour, but I have learnt about myself and about this particular deviation from boring bog standard. I wanted for many years to connect with others with similar 'wiring'. One benefit I've […]
Why I Love Disneyland
I was privileged growing up, and numerous times, family vacations were Disney-centric. We went to Disneyland and Disneyworld (the former more often than the latter) and even sailed on the maiden voyage of Disney's first cruise ship. For all the very fair criticisms of the Corporate House of Mouse, there is also an undeniable magic […]
On the topic of: Are aphantasic minds similar to ChatGPT?
Hi! On the latest news letter, i just want to post a really interesting video, that gave me a similar feeling! I have started to think that my way of "visualising" is using the feeling of distance between related subjects. And representing language models as a multi dimentional cloud feel very close, and therefore also […]
Podcasts and Audio Dramas
Podcasts and audio dramas, hit or miss? I've never been able to really get into audio-based stories because they rely on description. However I recently found an audio drama that did not do this and I am loving it! It's nice to not try to fill in the blanks. My hypothesis is that audio-based stories […]
High School Education, Aphantasia & Anauralia
Hi, we have just discovered that my 13 year old daughter maybe both Aphantasic & Anauralic (hopefully those are the correct terms). We completed the VVIQ test at home and she rated "No image at all, I only 'know' I am thinking of the object" for all questions. We are just starting to learn about […]
Tibetan Tantrism Buddhism
When I first read an article on aphantasia, I had a real sense of relief. I finally understood a lot of things at once, including why I wasn't visualizing during practices in Tibetan Tantrism, to which I've been connected for almost 40 years… I've tried talking to various people about it, lamas etc. … without […]
Article ‘What it is like to visualize’ with Apple Illusion
I tried multiple times to visualize any color apple after a 30 second stare but it didn't work and I just saw a blank, white wall afterwards. I'm wondering how many of us with aphantasia visualized an apple?
mental health
Are there cognitive therapies to fill the inner void and feel more alive and less isolated?
Can Aphantasia be progressive with age or is it rather unlearning work arounds?
Can Aphantasia be progressive with age or is it rather unlearning / forgetting work arounds not used anymore (e.g. in concern of tunes and not playing an instrument for years)? Or is it just retrograde shaping a past before I knew about aphantasia?
Self-identifying Aphantasia
Do you ever identify someone else with Aphantasia by watching them or talking with them? Most people I know about self-identify.
