Aphantasia and Physics

Does anyone else with Aphantasia struggle with questions that seem to necessitate visualization? Example cube mapping questions, or physics questions where you need to picture what is happening or visualize object(s) and their placement or movement?

Can aphantasia be acquired?

I am definitely in the 1% or less after taking the test.     My question to anyone reading this is… can some people who have aphantasia have it as an acquired phenomenon?   I ask because I remember as a child (very young) having highly graphical, visual detailed dreams and Highly graphical, visual ‘day dreams’.  […]

Is aphantisa part of a larger memory or brain function issue?

Could all these conditions be related: Aphantasia, ADHD, Dyslexia, Amusia, Severely Deficient Autobiographical Memory (SDAM)? Since school I have known that I was dyslexic – I can’t spell phonetically, I either know a word or I don’t, I also knew I was tone deaf and have struggled to speak foreign languages and can’t sing. Ten years ago I suddenly lost my excellent ability to visualize

From one night to the next in 2012, at age 57, I realized I’d lost my ability to visualize when the visualization technique I’d always used to drift to sleep (watching my feet descending stairs) was impossible because I only saw a blank, dark screen. I was not and am not sure why it happened, […]

Having […]

Using Organizational and productivity system.

I have aphantasia. I don’t see memories or images and I think this why for many years I’ve tried almost every organizational and productivity system to augment my memory.  A secondary thing that I think phantasia has imparted on me, is a lack of time focus and memory for upcoming events. I’ve tried bullet journaling, […]

Collecting and Aphantasia

I’m 52 and recently realized I have aphantasia. Looking back on my life some of my weird quirks make more sense, such as not being able to remember faces or past events. One thing I wonder about is the hobby of collecting stuff. My house is odd. Every square inch of wall space is decorated […]

ADHD and Aphantasia?

One of my friends is convinced that I have ADHD (they do) or some disorder similar. I’ve never thought so, because I’ve had descriptions of ADHD being similar to “my mind never shuts up.” On the other hand, my mind tends to be very quiet with usually only one stream of thought happening at a […]
